Your coach has finally given you permission to test. Here are a few friendly reminders to help you prepare.
2 weeks before - Turn in the test form and fee. Our club requires the signed form be turned in to the club room by two weeks prior to each test. Forms usually come from your coach, but can also be downloaded on the club website. Your coach must approve and sign your form for it to be complete!
1 week before - Get in extra ice! Nothing prepares you like practice. Also, check to be sure the dress you plan to wear still fits if it's been a while since you wore it.
1 day before - Clean your skates, polish or refresh the tape. Check your laces. Check the screws. Don't have a last minute crisis!
Test Day - bring skates, guards, dress and a nice sweater or fleece, tights, music if you need it and don't forget your smile. Judges expect a neat appearance so no sweatshirts/t-shirts. Wear your hair neatly back (I recommend a bun or tight ponytail) and check your nail polish if you wear it. They're not judging your sense of style, but good appearance lets them know you are prepared and serious about your performance.
Get to the rink one hour before you test. At our rink there is usually early warmup ice available - use it. If the schedule runs early, they won't wait for you so be there and ready.
When you test, be polite and friendly to the judges and remember we're all there to help you get through and achieve your goal. It is ok to ask if you are confused by a judge's directions. If you need water or tissues, you are allowed to break between moves to do so. When your test is over thank the judges for watching - they are volunteers and we need them to keep doing this. Everyone likes to be thanked. Remember to smile.
Results are given to you as soon as the test chair checks for correct addition of scores, usually only a couple of minutes. Your coach will go over the results with you. Turn in the original sheets to the office for record-keeping and get a copy for yourself. Good Luck!
